Why We Should Be Journaling
You’ve been told 1000 times to pick up your pen and paper and write your feelings, thoughts, and big ideas down. But why?
In my experience, journaling has become a safe haven for my human experience. Much like the locked diaries we used when we were kids, my time spent with pen and paper has been cathartic, personal and and life giving. Oftentimes, writing creates a portal for unknown energy to pour out onto paper.
I chose to use journaling as a method of healing within my online membership because it can have lasting effects. This is especially true when we’re able to make a constent habit out of it.
Here are 10 reasons journaling is beneficial for mental health:
△ Develop self awareness - Each moment spent on paper is a moment monitor our inner world.
△ Discover your own truth- You get to be completely honest with yourself! Sometimes writing can bring forward truths we didn’t even know existed.
△ Create ritual-Intentional time/space/place daily FOR YOU!
△ Transform limiting beliefs- A space to work through the beliefs we carry around about ourselves. You’ll probably find them to be weighted and untrue
△ Optimizes creative potential- Creating by writing focuses on output energy which is the source for creativity
△ Creates clarity - Give yourself time to work through problems
△ Increases memory- Studies have shown that writing things down allows us to remember more. Wouldn’t it be cool to remember this beautiful life when we’re 80?
△ Creates a life roadmap- Speaking of remembering our lives, maybe we can just go back and read our (appropriate) entries to people we love when we’re 80. Ya know, so we don’t have to remember EVERY detail
△ Reveals patterns- When we look back on our month or year, we can see the patterns we consistently struggle with or do well with.
△ Helps define goals- Makes your time more intentional. Future self journaling and goal setting help us work towards bigger things in our lives.
Journaling is one of the most powerful practices we can implement into our lives.
